This lady looks like Dolly Parton to me … not sure if it’s the lips or the eyes … maybe it’s the combination …

And I think this is my favourite drawing to date …

I realised last night that I’m already halfway through my moleskine journal … I love to draw and I’m getting excited about starting a Portraiture Drawing Class with Chris Dewar next week.

art journal … day 21

I wasn’t sure why I had drawn a lady with a purple face … so I googled it … and found dreamcrowd.com … which says … “purple is usually the color of royalty, high rank, or dignity. it is a strong color that can not be ignored. likewise, most people have a strong opinion of purple: they really like it, or vehemently dislike it. to some people, purple has spiritual connotations. it represents spiritual and personal transformation. purple could also represent higher consciousness and spiritual protection.”

Now I know I didn’t have a dream about purple … but I am a dreamer … and I like the connection to personal transformation …

dream with all your heart …

I did a sketch a few days ago and she had a circle border … and then I remembered that I had some old clocks that could be recycled.

Here is my first attempt …

I’ve used Ice Stickles to write the words and some Tim Holtz ribbon around the edges ..

the moleskine journal …

I sat down again last night and did some drawing … this lady looks a little different from all the others … and notice she has ears …

My daughter Annalise (11) was just looking through my journal and noticed that my drawings had similarities … big eyes, small lips and long necks … and yes, they all have noses … but to me they all have different personalities …

The other day I found an image in a magazine of a fashion icon and really wanted to draw it … I wonder if you can guess who it is??

still drawing …

I can’t stop drawing … and playing with different watercolour pencils .. I found some Derwent watercolours (but only a tin of 12 so the colours are limited) .. but my favourite so far is the Faber-Castell .. that I’ve borrowed from my daughter.

I even had a canvas with a background already painted (because i love backgrounds) so I thought I would give painting a try .. it’s a good starting point and I’m happy with the outcome.

My mum came over yesterday and suggested a place to put her on the wall .. which I did today.

Today I felt brave enough to colour in one of my “big eyed” ladies … and I enjoyed it very much!

moleskine journal …

A few days ago I was obsessed with the idea of a moleskine journal with watercolour paper … so I took the kids to the shops and I bought one.

Last night I had a realisation that I was obsessed with eyes … and thought I should practice … here is my first try in the non-committal form of my new best friend .. the art journal.

And then I put graphite pencil to my new moleskine … I think she’s kinda pretty …

And then again … big eyes …

And again .. bigger eyes .. and I know the ears are completely dodgy …

And this lady has had some clothing added since I took the photo … my daughter wasn’t that impressed that she looked naked ..
